LV transformers in Kilcullen (LV being low voltage, 230 V, AC) which convert the 10 kV or 20 kV MV (Medium voltage) feeds from the substation at Sunnyhill to 230 V. Many of the transformers (with red or purple tags) are pole mounted. The yellow ones have larger capacity and would have been installed for new housing estates or in business parks. These are often installed in small, flat-roofed buildings or kiosks. (e.g. the one across the road from the church. Interestingly this has a 400 kVA configuration and 400 kVA available, suggesting it is barely loaded).
230 V AC, 50 Hz is the harmonised voltage in the EU and supplies in Ireland are supposed to be kept within ±10% of this value.
